Welcome to Transition Town Manitou Springs. Transition Town is a resource for the Manitou Springs community (and the Pikes Peak Region) to allow the transition away from our dependence on a fossil fuel-based culture and into a more sustainable, resilient and self-reliant way of life. Transition Town is meant to inform, inspire, encourage, and help organize our community of 5000 to begin to act, innovate and create viable models and structures of sustainability in all areas of community life. This involves, but is not limited to, the areas of food security, local economy, energy production and use, transportation, health care, and housing.

All these areas of our lives are currently being effected by the influences of Peak Oil/Energy, Cataclysmic Climate Change and fundamental Economic Imbalance. Each one of us can make a huge contribution to ourselves, to our community and to our planet by taking incremental steps towards awakening to what is taking place in our culture right now, by educating ourselves and by taking action.

The Transition Town Initiative is an international grass-roots initiative with hundreds of Transition Towns emerging throughout the world. By collaborating with this world-wide network as well as other local organizations in utilizing 'best practices' we can allow this necessary transition to a more sustainable future to not only be more smooth but also fun! Transition Town Manitou Springs welcomes your participation and feedback.

Read about the Transition model in Yes! Magazine:

"While peak oil and climate change are undeniably profoundly challenging, also inherent within them is the potential for an economic, cultural and social renaissance the likes of which we have never seen. We will see a flourishing of local businesses, local skills and solutions, and a flowering of ingenuity and creativity. It is a Transition in which we will inevitably grow, and in which our evolution is a precondition for progress. Emerging at the other end, we will not be the same as we were; we will have become more humble, more connected to the natural world, fitter, leaner, more skilled and, ultimately, wiser." -- Rob Hopkins, The Transition Handbook
